Carmody, Mark PhD, RTMA, CTMA,
Mark studied at University College Cork, where he graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry, and then went on to complete a PhD in Biochemistry also at UCC in 2001. His research was published in peer-reviewed journals and he also presented his work at conferences in Ireland and abroad. Mark went on to work as a post-doctoral research fellow in UCC in the areas of genetic or genomic imprinting (genetic battle at the maternal-foetal interface) and inherited blindness (apoptotic pathways in Retinitis pigmentosa). Mark recently had a research paper published in the journal Placenta in 2009. Before joining PurdyLucey in June 2010 Mark worked for three years in a Japanese Intellectual Property Law firm and a further two years with a Dublin-based Intellectual Property Law firm. Mark specialises in drafting and prosecuting biotechnology and medical device related patent applications. In addition, Mark provides advice to clients on patent portfolio management and strategies. Mark has an in-depth knowledge of European and Japanese Patent law and was involved in high-profile litigation proceedings in Japan between two well known large pharmaceutical companies in the area of anesthetics. Mark is an Irish Registered and Community Trade Mark Attorney, and a Corporate Member of the Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys and a student member of the UK Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. Outside of Intellectual Property, Mark has a passionate interest in wildlife and is a keen photographer.
